How PetActing rates animal movies
Our ratings answer the questions pet owners and families actually ask. They are written by one human editor, Madalina, in our own words.
The ratings
| Does the animal die? | Yes / No / Unclear. Hidden behind a spoiler toggle on every page. Never in search snippets, lists or share images. |
|---|---|
| Is an animal hurt or in danger? | None, mild (brief peril) or intense (serious danger or distress shown on screen). |
| Real animals or CGI? | Real, mixed, animated or CGI. |
| On-set animal welfare | Only stated when a public source documents it (for example a welfare certification or monitoring report), and then we link the source. Otherwise we say "Not publicly documented". We never claim animals were or weren't harmed without a source. |
| Tearjerker level | 1 (no tears) to 5 (bring tissues). |
| Kid-friendliness | A minimum age, judged for the animal content only, not violence or language elsewhere. |
| Breed / species accuracy | 1–5: does the animal behave like the real breed or species? "Not applicable" when no real breed is shown. |
| Paw Score | Our overall 1–5 rating for pet lovers, with a short written verdict. |
Who rates
Madalina reviews and approves every rating. A film is published as rated only after approval. Until then its page shows public facts only and is excluded from search engines.
Sources and open data
Film facts (title, year, runtime, genres, directors, cast, animals) come from Wikidata (CC0) and Wikipedia, and every fact links to its source. "Most searched" ordering uses public English Wikipedia page views. We do not copy ratings, reviews, synopses or images from IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, Common Sense Media or Does The Dog Die.
Where to watch
We link to JustWatch searches by country and do not store streaming data.
YouTube pet stars
Channel facts and subscriber counts come only from the official YouTube Data API and are refreshed at least every 30 days. Our family-friendliness and welfare notes are our own written judgements, not calculated from any numbers. Lists say whether they are ranked by a plain YouTube figure or by our editorial order.
